Can you believe that it's already April?! It's crazy to think how fast 2021 has been flying by! On top of school, work, internship/job hunting, navigating the current social and political climate, caring for your physical and mental health, the COVID-19 vaccine rollout, and everything else in between, a lot has happened so far this year. 🤝 Students of UXD x 33rd Brandathon
Our partner at Brandathon is hosting their next virtual competition next weekend, April 9-11, to rebrand Buzzoms. The brand specializes in designing custom, braless, and supportive clothing for women with large breasts, and is founded by Marshay Clarke.
Brandathon is a weekend-long branding hackathon where expert visual designers, UX designers, copywriters, and strategists come together and rebrand early-stage companies we admire, all while being critiqued and mentored by iconic founders, creative directors, and angels we respect. 🤝 Students of UXD x CreateSC Designathon 2021
We're so excited to partner with Innovative Design at USC for CreateSC 2021, USC’s annual, free, 24 hour UX designathon.
This year, CreateSC is open to students of ALL United States universities. Students will compete in teams of three to design a mobile app using Adobe XD, guided by a prompt that Innovative Design will provide on the morning of the event.
We look forward to hosting alongside a panel of distinguished judges, mentors who will host open "office hours" for participants to ask questions and ask for advice, and a team who will provide a complete breakdown of Adobe XD for all beginners. This designation is open to all skill levels, and we encourage students of all academic backgrounds to participate. If you are looking to break into the design world or build your portfolio, this is the event for you!
1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners will receive a monetary prize.

☝ Designing for Autistic People - Inclusive Design That Benefits Everyone
You may know of inclusive design but have you ever learned about how to design to include for people on the autism spectrum? For our next event, we are excited to invite Irina Rusakova, who will speak about the foundations of inclusive design and her research on designing for the autistic population. She'll be sharing a story of an autistic artist and the challenges that autistic people face with current digital design patterns. She'll also cover the principles that neurotypical designers can follow to cater to this group of people, why designing for autistic people is correlated with designing better for everyone, and more!
Irina Rusakova is an independent inclusive design consultant based in Brighton, UK. Her background is in visual design with 12+ years in UX/Service/Product Design and Research. In the last 5 years, inclusive design has become a big passion for her and has brought a lot more meaning to her work.
Lately, she has found herself setting up a project called 'Inclusive by Design' where she shares first-hand feedback from underrepresented communities and inspiring, inclusive projects. As a part of this project, Irina also conducted research on designing for the neurodiverse community.
